Summary of Week 2

I lost 1 pound with limited compliance.

I was compliant with intermittent fasting for 6 of 7 days That might have been 7 of 7 but I did have a substantial amount of cream in my coffee throughout the day.

I was compliant with one meal a day for 2 of  7 days. (that is counting my early evening snack as a separate meal.)

I was compliant with maintaining a daily caloric intake under 800 calories 1 of 7 days.

We now enter Phase 2: The Ultra-Compliance Phase.

Summary of Week 1

 I lost 5 pounds.

I felt physically good most of the time. By Friday, however, I was feeling a deep hunger. By deep hunger, I do not mean the sensations that accompany low blood sugar or an empty stomach. No drowsiness (I used to yawn when I got hungry) irritability or inability to focus. No growling stomach. Subjective energy level was maybe a bit less than what I was accustomed to but well within normal limits.

I felt deep hunger and it took the form of massive fruit consumption on Friday and massive protein consumption on Saturday. On both days, I also consumed 44 pretzels. IThe deep hunger was satisfied.

Fortunately, I was 100 % compliant with My New Supplement Regimen. That is key.

Call this Phase 1. It was as much a testing and feeling out phase rather than a formal protocol. Phase 1  will conclude on either Day 8 or Day 9. Then, a more formal, rigorous program will take place.

New Protocol:

1. 100 % compliance with My New Supplement Regimen.

2. Adherence to a daily calorie intake not to exceed 800 calories/day.

3. Adherence to intermittent fasting: 16 hours between meals.

4.. Adherence to OMAD (one meal per day) on most, if not all days.

5. Adherence to extant supplement regimen.

Target weight: 200 pounds.

That Was The Week That Was

I don't usually talk about my job because it involves mental health and I am unusually cautious about confidentiality. The place where I work calls itself a crisis stabilization unit. In other words, people who are experiencing a mental health crisis but do not need to be confined to a locked unit come to our ward. Also, people who "step down" from a locked unit come to our ward. As well, people who need a psychopharmalogical evaluation or need to be observed after starting a new pharmacological regime come to our unit.

Among my many duties, I act as sort of a quartermaster, purchasing food among other things. It is an ingrained ethic from early childhood, that wasting food is a very grievous sin. So diet or no, I am at war with the garbage disposal. Thus, I become a garbage disposal by proxy.

On Monday September 14 our unit had a few ripe bananas and a surplus of bread products, especially hot dog rolls. I downloaded a recipe http://www.workitmom.com/bloggers/orderingdisorder/2009/05/16/banana-bread-pudding-an-easy-crowd-pleaser/
I made a few substitutions because we didn't have all of the ingredients. It turned out great.

I decided to go off-diet for a day and since I went off diet, I ate a copious amount of bread pudding. The next day I ate more bread pudding. Since I was off-diet I had a glass of saki when I got home. On Wednesday we hate some dry bagels and some apples no one seemed particularly interested in. We turned the apple bread pudding into a group project. I made an even larger dent in this masterpiece. And as I went off-diet I ate some chips and popcorn and finished up the saki when I got home.

On Sunday September 13 and Monday September 14 I weighed 241 lb. On Thursday September 17 I weighed 249 lb. I restarted the high protein diet Thursday AM and as of this writing I weigh 241 lb.

A few quick high protein points reconfirmed in the past week. You can lose weight fast on a high protein diet and you can reagain it just as quickly. I suspect that has to do with carbohydrates' tendency to absorb water. That, in part, expains the roller coaster weight loss and gain with when carbs are eliminated and then restarted.

Other notes: On Monday September 14 I increased the resveratrol from 400 mg. tid to 800 mg. tid. DHEA stay at 500 mg. bid.
