Weekly Weigh-in, January 25, 2010

I moved the scales and pointed them in every direction on my uneven floors and I seem to weigh 240 LB.

Weekly Weigh-in, January 18, 2010

I weigh about 241. Creeping back into the flubber zone. Still having a hard time getting an accurate reading on uneven floors.

Did some aerobic snow shoveling today. Hope to get back to some sort of routine following the much-discussed move.

Weekly Weigh-In, January 11, 2010

As mentioned, I moved recently to a more economically friendly environment. Part of the package of the cost savings happens to be, uneven floors. Not a major hassle until one wants to weigh oneself. I get different readings depending on which direction the scales are placed. I then take four readings and factor the mean.

But it's not as easy as it sounds. A movement of a few inches in any direction, even when the scales are facing east (for example) can make the scales read a two pound difference. Until I effectively resolve the precision I will estimate my current weight to be 240 pounds.

Weekly Weigh-in, January 4, 2010

I weighed about 240 on Monday. I have been eating a lo of rich holiday food but I have burned a lot of calories in the activities involved in changing addresses. When the holiday foods are all eaten, I will start a new diet. Stay tuned.

Weekly Weigh-in, December 28, 2009

I weighed 238 lb. this past Monday. I have been eating a lot of junk food and Christmas goodies and as of this writing I might weigh a little more than that.

Hope to get back into the routine real soon. The change of address is officially completed. I love Newmarket, New Hampshire. I filled out a change of address card at the Post Office this morning and a few hours later my mailman came by to say good-bye. The personnel at the Post Office have all been great. So have the town officials and the odd cacophany of humanity that is Newmarket.

Moving to Exeter might make dieting easier, however. Always looking on the bright side.

Weekly Weigh-In. Monday December 21.

Belated Happy Solstice as I am posting this on Tuesday, December 22.

On Monday, December 21 I weighed 238 lb.

On June 8 I weighed 256 lb. 18 lb. in just over six months. A nice accomplishment but maybe not a weight loss guru kind of accomplishment. After the Atkins-induced 6 pound loss the first week I have struggled to lose evry single pound. It's been more of a trench fight this time around. Each "plateau" has been a story unto itself. Each pound has been a chapter unto itself. Each morsel has been a potential game changer. Oh, the drama.

Weekly Weigh-In: December 14, 2009

I weigh 238 lb. I have gone from a size 44 waist to a size 42. I have several pairs of pants that I have not worn for about six years and then I only wore them a few times. In 2003 I got down to about 228 before reflabbing as high as 280 (or even higher. I stopped weighing myself) in Winter, 2007.

It is as if Santa came a bit early with my almost new wardrobe. Meanwhile, a lot of the size 44's are finding a new home for Christmas. I look forward to the day when all of my 44's are provided with a new address.

Weekly Weigh-in, December 7, 2009

I weigh 240 lb.

Rule of thumb: You have to lose 10% of your body weight before people notice and/or comment or your weight loss.

Weekly Weigh In: November 23, 2009

On November 23, I weighed 239 lb.

On November 9 I started the first symptoms of a cold and they continued until about November 26 (Thanksgiving Day.)I did not have much appetite during that illness. Still don't have it completely back (not exactly complaining.) I got by on fewer calories than I usually do but I hit the sweetened cough syrup and sweetened cough drops pretty hard. By the time I eased up on those things Thanksgiving was upon us.

I currently weigh about 240 lb. I enjoyed thanksgiving but I was only moderately gluttonous. I can remember one thanksgiving weekend where I put on 10 lb. and those pounds stayed with me for weeks. Not this time.

As I am moving and as I am absurdly busy I will only post sporadically until sometime in 2010. Happy New Year if I don't post until then.

Weekly Weigh-in: November 16, 2009

I weigh 240 lb. How did I lose that pseky pound? Illness. I have been sick for a week now--mostly cold and flu symptoms--and I don't have much appetite. Too late to wish me a speedy recovery.

Weekly Weigh-In: November 9, 2009

I weigh about 242. I started the week on a high protein diet but by Wednesday I threw in the towel. The transportation problem is resolved but now I might be moving in with a roommate to save money. One of the drawbacks is that I will have to surrender my Wildcat Fitness membership and there is not a nearby gym where I am moving.

I will keep my many readers abreast of the details.

weekly weigh in

On Monday, November 2, I weighed 241 pounds. I maintained a high protein diet throughout the week. No strength training or any exercise beyond walking.

Excuse of the week: transportation problems. This problem has eclipsed all else. I own a Nissan Sentra that is worth maybe $4K. I blew a head gasket but I also have problems with the O2 sensor and get this, the swirl valve.

It has been difficult to perform a cost/benefit analysis for repair. The first quote I got was $1250 but I was warned that it could be more. I got a second opinion from the Nissan dealer and he was better at explaining things. Yes, there would be overlap time in repairing the head gasket, swirl valve and O2 sensor. Good news. But there could be engine damage as a result of the blown head gasket. Bad news. Even worse news is that they would not be able to determine if damage had occurred until they were several hours into the disassembly (at $94/hr.) Even if it was determined that the Sentra was a goner, I would still be billed for re-assembley time. So I could spit out a grand just to be told that it would cost me 3 grand to repair.

Of course, I have spent most of my free time on this subject and that means no gym time. I hope that this will change when I log next week's weigh-in.

Weekly Weigh In for Monday October 26

I weighed 241 lb.
I maintained a high protein diet from Monday to Sunday. On Sunday, I visited some Spanish people who served me some delicious soup that was loaded with sugar, raisins and potatoes. It tasted like pumpkin soup but they looked puzzled when someone said the word "pumpkin." As I was off-diet, I ate a couple of apples and some popcorn.

I wanted to get back on the protein bandwagon on Monday but transportation problems made me an unexpected house guest of a good friend. I feasted on enchiladas, avocados, beans and rice, and artichokes. It was great!

I returned to high protein on Tuesday.

Significant event: I discontinued resveratrol abruptly on Tuesday October 20. Reasons:
1. Possible side effect of severe gas pains. It took me a while to figure this out because I had gone on an ad lib diet and was not repeating much of anything. Usually I am immune from gas pain.

2. Efficacy. Other than the gas pain, I felt nothing. This is probably due to the problem of bioavailability.

3. Cost. Even at Beyond A Century bulk prices, resveratrol put a dent in my wallet. Had I seen some resuslts I would have found a way to continue with resveratrol.

Other significant event. On Monday October 26 I discontinued DHEA. No side effects but cost and efficacy tilted the scales. This is probably the fifth or sixth go around with DHEA going back about a decade and I have never felt any different from taking it.

I will write more aobut my experimentation in future posts.

Weekly Weigh-in for Monday October 19

I weighed 243 lb. yesterday (October 19.) I lost about 5 lb. in 6 days. The plan is to continue on the present course until my weight stabilizes. I hope that I can get under 240 lb. However, if I linger in that area for more than three or four weeks, I will reformulate a new weight loss plan. There have been a couple i have been wanting to try for a few years now. But let's hope the current diet continues to yield results as it did before I abandoned it.
