On Healthful Foods

There are two reasons why I eat fattening foods. One, on average fattening foods taste better than non-fattening foods.

Two, fattening foods make me feel better and feel healthier than non-fattening foods. If I want to feel good I will eat a diet of cheeseburgers, fries, pizza, hot dogs and chips. Meat and potatoes always works. Meat and rice works about as well. Pretzels always make me feel better.

I don't have much of a sweet tooth but on those occasions when I have eaten too many sweets, I have felt bad the next day. Almost like a hangover. But I rarely splurge on sweets so it doesn't happen that often.

When I try to eat the officially-sanctioned-proclaimed-from-the heavens-certifiably-good-for-you foods, bad things happen. Years ago I tried to be a vegetarian. I felt awful except when I would break down and eat meat. I had no strength and I had ongoing stomach trouble.

I am not given to discussing bodily functions so I will skip on the details. However, the more fruits and vegetables I consumed, the more gas I produced and the more time I spent on the toilet. Low, energy, stomach pain and...and yes, there were other problems as well.

I am wary of all things that are said to be good for me. Fat and salt make me feel good. Complex carbohydrates, legumes and high fiber foods all come with a steep price. But low brow, standard American foods never seem to let me down.

Off-Diet March 25 Through March 30

It happened like this. I knew I would go off-diet to meet with a client on Thursday, the 26th. And I slipped and ate Chicken Parm on Tuesday the 24th. So I rationalized and said, "why not?' on Wednesday the 25th.

I had every intention of restarting diet on Friday the 27th. My friend Terri treated me to her homemade tres leche cake (and it was good.) My friend Cynthia bought me a gift of pecan tarts (also good.)

Saturday the 28th was also marked with good intentions but bad results. On Sunday I decided to slow cook the two corned beefs that I bought on sale right after St. Patrick's Day (Remember when corned beef was cheap?)

I have at least another day of corned beef before I resume my diet. Then comes Easter.

12 in two weeks. not bad.

Incidentally, I feel better this time around. Increased the protein and calorie intake slightly. Probably closer to 2000 calories/day than to 1000. More strength than last attempts of low-cal.

It is also significant that I waited till the end of winter to restart. Hard to diet when it is cold.

Restarting Diet

When we last saw our hero he suddenly ceased his diet (December 16, 2014) due to the holidays and the inundation of good food. Yours truly wanted to start calorie restriction once more but it was an unusually harsh winter and extreme cold just does not lend itself to dieting. Warm blooded animals use a lot of their calories just to maintain body temperature. I had enough challenges to even consider dieting.

In about a ten week period I uploaded 12 lb. At 264, it becomes hard to button my jeans. My wardrobe is already tattered and worn because I refuse to buy more clothes at this size. I want to drop a size, burn my sartorial bridges and start afresh with a smaller version of myself. It's still cold outside but I cannot put off dieting any longer.

On March 8, I once more started an HCG-assisted, calorie-restricted diet. Wish me well.
